PEN Y FAN TURBINE

Sirius Renewable Energy has completed the construction and commissioning of its 7th wind turbine at Pen y Fan industrial estate, near Caerphilly in South Wales. The 1.5MW turbine has been developed in order to supply low cost renewable energy to Abingdon Flooring, in order to support their carpet manufacturing facility which employs over 150 people on the estate.

The civil engineering works were designed by Sirius Environmental and are being constructed by Sirius Remediation. The foundation design involves the installation of 72 tubular steel piles, which have been driven to a depth of 13m. Following installation of the piles and blinding layer, the holding down assembly for the turbine, which was manufactured in Germany has been secured into the steel reinforcement cage, prior to a 500m3 concrete pour.

The wind turbine installed at the site is a 111m Vestas V66 which has been dismantled, re-conditioned and transported to the UK form the Netherlands. The turbine was erected on site in January 2017 and is now in full production. See turbine installation video below:
