Cotgrave Colliery

Sirius is proud to have delivered this large enabling works package early in this ambitious project for the regeneration of this ex-colliery. They have also managed to achieve cost savings for the client by introducing the vibro piling to the project which will use some of the materials won in the enabling works.

Project Description

Barratts & David Wilson in partnership with the HCA are undertaking the regeneration of the old Cotgrave colliery into a 449 house residential development.

Sirius was contracted by them to undertake the initial preparation works for the site. These include:

  • 35,000m3 of slab and foundations removal,
  • Production of aggregates from the materials generated by this,
  • 250,000m3 earthworks operation.

The original project duration was envisaged to be 40 weeks but by careful project planning and execution Sirius was able to reduce this by 15%, delivering the project in 33 weeks with consequent benefits to all stakeholders.

Careful excavation and processing has enabled Sirius to generate a variety of aggregates for use throughout the whole redevelopment programme.

Innovation

Sirius has introduced the concept of vibro piling to this project which will generate significant savings for the clients by enabling strip foundations to be used on 50% of the site rather than the original proposal of a piled foundation solution.
