Cornwall Road

The major feature of this project was the installation of 175m of 3.6 x1.2m box culvert. This was completed smoothly and safely, alongside the final stages of road and drain installation by Sirius and the clients own foundation construction activities.

Careful planning and project execution enabled all phases of the project to be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Project Description

This site was a former Yorkshire Water drinking water distribution facility. It had been acquired by Linden Homes for a prestigious development of 26 homes. Sirius was awarded the contract to undertake all necessary enabling works.

The first phase of the project comprised removal of all historical structures and geotechnical stabilisation of soils. The second phase involved the following civil engineering activities:

  • 1.2km of roads;
  • 3.8km of drains (both surface water and foul);
  • 3 road connections;
  • 175 metres of 3.6×1.2m box culvert.

The robust nature of the earlier structures allowed the generation of an appreciable quantity of aggregates, which lowered import requirements, thereby reducing the environmental impact of the development.

Innovation and Value Engineering

Careful design and project planning enabled the smooth installation of the large-section box culvert, whilst ensuring that the client was able to progress foundation installation and other works in a timely manner.
