Quarry Solar Farm Planning Permission

Date: April/14/2016

Sirius Planning is delighted to announce a successful result for our clients at SBC Renewables, securing planning permission for their new 5MW solar farm at Moneystone Quarry near Cheadle in Staffordshire.

Solar farm planning permission success

Based at a former silica sand quarry, the solar farm will cover an area of 14 hectares within the wider quarry site – and is to be complemented with a restoration project bringing significant biodiversity enhancements to the site through wildflower meadows and heathland. This will be actively managed for the duration of the solar farm’s lifespan, providing an additional aesthetic aspect to the site.

How we helped…

Our environmental experts were tasked with the responsibility of preparing the planning application along with the supporting environmental assessments. We managed the stakeholder consultations which incorporated a public exhibition event organised as part of the community engagement exercise.

The environmental assessments we conducted included:

  • Landscape and visual impact
  • Cultural heritage
  • Ecology

What benefits will the solar farm bring?

The solar farm will power the equivalent of over 1,000 homes, and will also offer the potential to reduce carbon dioxide production by some 52,000 tonnes over the life of the project. We were delighted to be able to help SBC Renewables with this fantastic project.
