Penycae Solar Farm Planning

Date: November/14/2015

Another successful project with our partners at SBC Renewables, we recently worked on a planning application for a 5MW solar farm development to be located at Penycae near Wrexham.

Securing planning permission for a new solar farm development

Extending to 11 hectares, this solar farm installation will be developed on agricultural land, close to the grid connection sub-station. One of the key benefits of this renewable energy project is the potential it has to provide a huge reduction in carbon dioxide emissions – a projected 75,000 tonnes over the life of the project.

Managing assessments and applications

Securing planning permission for any development is an in-depth process, with lots of evidence to collate and assessments to conduct.

We took over the organisation and administration of the planning application and used our experience and knowledge to ensure that all supporting environmental assessments were well managed. This included essential stakeholder consultations, such as a very well received public exhibition event organised as part of the community engagement exercise.

We also managed the assessments that needed to be undertaken in order to support the planning application, such as:

  • Landscape and visual impact
  • Noise
  • Cultural heritage
  • Ecology

In addition to the carbon dioxide reduction and provision of renewable energy, the solar farm will also provide a great opportunity to enhance the ecological biodiversity of the site.
